The Good Luck Bar

In the city centre's historic Ferreirasdorp district (the location of the first tented camps of early gold rush Joburg) you’ll find the Good Luck Bar, named in honour of the early 1890s drinking establishments that were said to have operated from this location, serving local mineworkers and newly arrived fortune hunters alike. This large capacity live music venue is part of the 1 Fox Precinct, a recently restored (2014) collection of historic warehouse that date back as far as 1893 (which is almost as far as you can go in this town considering that Joburg was only founded in 1886).

Behind a pair of hulking triple-height doors bearing decades-old warnings of explosive dangers and dynamite, lies this quirky industrial-chic club. To the right the long brick bar, illuminated by custom neon signs, long dangling globe lights and an impressive iron chandelier, stretches across the entire length of the space ensuring that even during the busiest gigs everyone has the chance to catch the eye of a barman.

Next door is a larger events space, Fox Junction Event Venue, which is also often used for major concerts  (the two venues can be directly accessed and opened out to become one large events space)
