Ellis Park Swimming Pool

Cnr North Ln and Erin St, Doornfontein      +27 11 402 5565     more than a year ago

If you are serious about swimming then this famous pool, where South African Olympians and Iron Man competitors come to eat up the laps, is the top choice. There are in fact three pools, the heated Olympic pool, the kiddies splash pool and the more serene 'grown-ups' pool. The main pool is divided up into lanes and a free-for-all open area which is usually packed with local kids who come to splash about all day long during the summer. Unlike many Joburg pools the changing rooms have lockers where you can put your belongings (bring your own padlock) and there's a small tuck shop selling soft drinks and snacks. No alcohol is permitted at public pools.

Please note that for any queries – contact the Ellis Park swimming pool directly. Johannesburg in Your Pocket is an information guide to Joburg, and does not represent the pool.

Open 08:00–16:00, Sat, Sun 09:00–16:00.

I love Ellis Park, however the pool was closed for a whole year for "maintenance" none of which was done. Heaters not working, surrounding grounds in serious state of neglect. Only the 50m pool & paddling pool are blue. 😒😐

Hello Richard, unfortunately the last we heard is that the swimming pool is now undergoing repairs so it is not clear when it will next be open. For season tickets we advise visiting the Linden Pool (open all year round) and enquiring there about the status of the different pools and the costs applicable if you would like to buy season tickets.

Hi there. Is the Ellis Park pool open again and how do we go about buying a season ticket for the pools?

Hi, Unfortunately, Ellis Park pool is not listed in the public pools scheduled to open for the summer season on Oct 1, 2021 and neither has it been open during winter (despite being a heated pool). Last we saw this pool (end August) it was empty of water It seems that it is being renovated (or will be renovated) although this is not clear still. Unfortunately it is challenging to get clarity on this from City of Joburg ~Johannesburg In Your Pocket

Hi Nick, Unfortunately, Ellis Park pool has been closed for the last 5 months and was not listed in the public pools scheduled to open for the summer season on Oct 1, 2021. We are trying to find out from the city what is the situation with this pool (especially as it is one of our favourites!) and waiting a response from the department in charge

Hello Alina, Unfortunately Ellis Park pool no longer has diving boards. If you want to dive you can find diving boards at the Sydenham pool www.inyourpocket.com/johannesburg/sydenham-swimming-pool_133219v

Good afternoon. I went by the pool earlier and the staff was not able to answer my questions. I asked about the lap lanes and they just pointed at a printed sign. I asked about season passes and the price didn't reflect what has been posted on this site. Please help.

Hi Kenneth The Ellis Park swimming pool isn't near Park Station (Gautrain station) but from Park Station you can catch the Rea Vaya bus which stops on Bertrams Road, outside the Standard Bank Arena. From there you can walk down to the swimming pool, which isn't far at all. Once there, entrance is R5 for kids and R8 for adults. Senior citizens swim for free. There are three heated pools and a kiddies pool, and season tickets are available for R220 for adults, R110 for adults with disabilities, and R55 for children Johannesburg In Your Pocket
