Getting to Wieliczka Salt Mine from Kraków

17 May 2024

By Car

Getting to Wieliczka is a cinch with the E4 road east out of Kraków leading straight to the Wieliczka exit in about 15mins.

By Train

If you don't have your own vehicle, train is your best bet. Trains leave from Kraków Główny train station about once an hour; check kolejemalopolskie.com.pl for the exact schedule. The journey time is 25mins, and tickets cost 6.50zł. Get off at the last stop, 'Wieliczka Rynek-Kopalnia,' from which it's a short walk to either the Daniłowicza Shaft (Tourist Route) or Regis Shaft (Miners' Route) where tours begin.
For those who enjoy convenience, using the services of local tour operators will be a good solution. Book a Wieliczka Salt Mine tour.

By Bus

You can also get to Wieliczka via a normal Kraków city bus, but the trip takes about 40mins and costs about the same - 6zł. Hop on bus 304 at the 'Dworzec Głowny Zachód' stop (on the west side of Galeria Krakowska). Get off at the 'Wieliczka Kopalnia Soli' stop if you are going to the Daniłowicz Shaft (Tourist Route) or at the 'Wieliczka Rynek' stop if you are going to the Regis Shaft (Miner's Route). Make sure to buy a 6zł ticket that covers both zones I and II.
